Looking for something to do this Easter weekend? Escape downtown Ottawa and bring the family for a drive to Wakefield! All businesses are open for Easter weekend and offer something for everyone. Here’s some ideas for how you can spend Easter Sunday in the village:
Start with Easter Brunch at one of Wakefield’s many fine breakfast and brunch establishments. Watch the ice melt on the Gatineau River by taking in brunch at the Café Pot au Feu, located in the old Wakefield train station, watch the La Pêche river run over the falls while enjoying brunch at the Wakefield Mill, or enjoy one of the many other favourite local establishments such as Chamberlain’s Lookout, located on the second story of the Wakefield General Store, Bistro Chez Eric (Valley Drive), Kaffe 1870 or The Hibou.
After brunch, work off some of that meal by paying a visit to Expéditions Wakefield where you can rent snowshoes, cross country skis or fat bikes for the day. Perfect activities for families and couples alike. The snow may have melted in Ottawa, but there is still lots of snow remaining in the Gatineau Park. The forecast is for sunshine and warm temperatures and it promises to be a great day to get outside!
Still got a bit of time? Be sure to check out the shopping and art galleries in the village! Almost everyone is open Easter Sunday.
Following your outdoor adventure, reward yourself with Easter treats including hand-made chocolate at La Confiserie where you fill find mouth watering chocolate Easter eggs and Easter bunnies suitable for all ages…all made right here in the village of Wakefield!
Cap off the evening with a matinée show at the Black Sheep. On Easter Sunday, Juno Award winning rock/swamp/ blues band Monkey Junk will take the stage with special guest Ross Neilsen. Be sure to arrive early, you won’t want to miss this popular Ottawa-based band!
Got Monday off work? No problem…spend the evening at one of Wakefield’s hotels or B&B’s, wake up and watch the sunrise over the Gatineau River and take your time heading home on Monday morning.
